Red Velvet Cake
- ½ - cup Crisco
- 2 - eggs
- 2 - cups of cocoa
- 2 ¼ - cups flour
- ½ - teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ - cups sugar
- 2 - ounces red food color
- 1- cup buttermilk
- 1- teaspoon vanilla
- 1- teaspoon soda
- 1- tablespoon vinegar
Blend crisco with sugar and add eggs. Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa. Add to blended mixture. Alternately add
buttermilk with sifted flour and salt. Then add vanilla. Add soda to vinegar holding over the bowl as it forms. Then add to mixture,
blending instead of beating. Bake in two 8 inch greased and floured pans for 25 to 35 minutes at 350 degree pre-heated oven.
Cool and then frost cake in two layers.
Frosting for Red Velvet Cake
- 1 - stick of margarine (softened)
- 1 - box of powered sugar
- 1 - box of cream cheese
Mix all ingredients together until smooth and blended. Then frost cake. You may add coconut or nuts to cake.
